![]() We use Android phones and iPads in various locations around the house to control the SONOS, so we need music library software that works for both. I also tried Bliss, but it doesn't work well in Android as music management software. (Plus, how can one play "Name that Tune" when the first 20 seconds are MIA?) And at $499, it just isn't all we are looking for. More recently, he put us on a trial run of Roon, but it still drops the first 20 seconds or so of songs, and unilaterally decides to skip songs we've placed into the queue. And creating playlists is possible only on the desktop, not on an iPad. He recommended Plex, but I dislike the inability to use multiple genres (or any genres if not on the PC), and the emphasis on videos, TV and streaming, none of which interests us. An IT guy has been working with us sporadically for more than a year (!) to try to sort this out. Initially we used iTunes as the music library software, but kept having speakers drop, skipping when music was playing (25-30 seconds), and other problems. When playing a track you can click the 3 dots in the bottom right and select “Cast to device” BUT it does not work – all you will see is “Make sure that the device is turned on and discoverable”.We have had SONOS since 2013 and now have 8 speakers. The current Windows Media Player does not have any dedicated settings for streaming. It has a different menu system (settings are bottom left when you click the menu 3 lines). I’ve tried with the newer Media Player (current version 11.2305.4.0 ). It does work in a clunky way with Windows Media Player Legacy BUT it’s pretty awful. However, the instructions refer to the old version of Media Player, now called Media Player Legacy. SONOS also has an article published discussing how to cast to SONOS from Windows Media Player: ![]() Windows Media Player (current and Legacy). If you right click a group of tracks in a folder it will play them in sequence and you can right click folder it will cast all the songs in the folder and any sub folders. It does seem a bit hit and miss though using this method – occasionally it does not connect. In addition, for something totally basic if you right click on any music file in Windows 11 Home you can also Cast to SONOS – my 2 speakers come up and I just select either of them. Media Monkey 5 free version ( I have version ), such a great app!! However, contrary to what SONOS tech support told me, I have noticed that you can Cast from the following Windows apps: Having said that YouTube Music is available via the SONOS S2 Windows app. ![]() ![]() I did try the Chrome Cast to SONOS extension, but it is awful (sometimes not sounding completley distorted or as if one side of stereo is not there) so I removed it. Having uploaded my music to YouTube Music I had also noticed that the Cast feature of YouTube Music does not work to the SONOS speakers from the Windows web browser version (I have SONOS 1). I spoke to someone in SONOS technical support (based in Romania with chickens in the background!) and was told, incorrectly, that 3rd party apps are not supported for casting. You can then add songs etc to a queue and/or form Playlists by right clicking on a track. You can add a music service to including Local Folders on your PC, Apple Music, BBC Sounds, YouTube Music, Spotify, TuneIn, Sonos Radio and a number of dedicated radio stations. SONOS have their own Windows app - the Sonos S2 App.
